Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today announced Painting with a Twist of Mandeville, La. as the Throwback Thursday honorary Small Business of the Week and will be submitting it into the official Congressional Record.

“Louisiana has a rich culture and history known for fostering artistic and musical creativity,” said Vitter. “After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, two Louisiana entrepreneurs opened Painting with a Twist to provide their friends and neighbors with a safe and fun distraction during the recovery and rebuilding process. In the years since, Painting with a Twist has taken hold in over 200 locations, bringing a taste of Louisiana to communities throughout the country – truly a small business success story.”

Louisiana natives Cathy Deano and Renee Maloney opened Corks N Canvas in 2007 where locals could learn to paint, while drinking wine and relaxing. Now Deano and Maloney’s small business is named Painting with a Twist, which regularly gives back to its local community and hosts a monthly fundraising event, partnering with a number of local nonprofits. Today, the business has grown to 210 franchises nationwide while maintaining their headquarters in Mandeville, La. In recent years, Painting with a Twist has received numerous recognitions as a top franchise opportunity in regions throughout the country.

As Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Sen. David Vitter is continuing the tradition of honoring America’s small businesses.
