(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, announced Celtic Media Centre (CMC) of Baton Rouge, La as Small Business of the Week, and will be submitting it into the official Congressional Record.

“Over the last several years, Celtic Media Centre in Baton Rouge has helped shaped the film and television industry in Louisiana, which has created much-needed jobs and helped boost our state’s economy,” said Vitter. “Following the deadly, historic flooding in South Louisiana last month, Celtic Media Centre provided shelter for thousands of flood victims for nearly two weeks. CMC is a remarkable example of true community spirit and selfless service, and I am proud to announce Celtic Media Centre as Small Business of the Week.”

Brendan O’Connor founded Celtic Media Centre in 2005 as part of the broader Celtic Group based out of Baton Rouge. Today, Brendan’s son Michael O’Connor is at the helm of what is now Louisiana’s largest film and television production studio. Following the one-in-a-thousand-year flooding disaster in South Louisiana last month, Celtic Media Centre opened its doors to shelter thousands of flood victims during the first two weeks.

Yesterday, Chairman Vitter held a hearing on the federal response to disaster recovery efforts following unprecedented flooding across much of South Louisiana, and CMC’s Executive Director Patrick Mulhearn testified before the Committee as a witness. The flooding in South Louisiana this August is considered to be one of the worst U.S. natural disasters in history and the most significant natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy. Thirteen individuals were killed in the flooding disaster, and nearly 146,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.

As the Senate Small Business Committee Chairman, Vitter continues the tradition of honoring America’s small businesses and entrepreneurs.
