Washington, D.C. - In recognition of their tremendous efforts and years of success, U.S. Senator Jim Risch has named Whiteman Lumber as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for September.  The company will be recognized in the Congressional Record of the United States Senate.

“I am pleased to recognize Whiteman Lumber as an outstanding small business.  This small business exemplifies the perseverance and entrepreneurial spirit of Idaho,” said Risch. “An indispensable member of the Silver Valley community, Whiteman Lumber has been fixture in the region for more than 80 years and is now the oldest continuously operating sawmill in Idaho.  I congratulate everyone at Whiteman Lumber on their success and wish them the very best in the future.”

Opened in 1928, Whiteman Lumber has seen the evolution of the lumber industry in Idaho and continues to meet the needs of local mines, mills and other clients through market and economic fluctuations.  This small family business is a perfect example of resiliency, seeing their share of struggle through recession and even a devastating fire, but they never gave up.  They continually moved forward to expand to new markets and provide clients with superior, custom lumber products.

Senator Risch is the highest ranking Republican on the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.  The committee oversees proposed legislation on matters relating to entrepreneurship and provides oversight of the Small Business Administration.  They also research, investigate and report all problems relating to American’s small businesses to the full Senate.
