WASHINGTON – United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today announced that Geocent, a Metairie based IT and Engineering firm, was one of six firms awarded an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Multiple Award Contract (MAC) worth $22.1 million.

The contract includes one two-year option period that could raise the value of the award to $36.4 million.  Geocent will be working with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) Pacific on command and control (C2) technologies, capabilities, and net-centric operations.

“This well-deserved contract gives Geocent the opportunity it needs to grow and develop its footprint in Southeast Louisiana,” Senator Landrieu said.  “I am proud of Bobby Savoie and his team at Geocent.  This successful small business is a prime example of Louisiana home grown cyber and IT talent.  They won the contract because they are the best at what they do.  This award is an example that leveling the playing field for small business contractors allows them to continue to grow and develop their business by providing high quality products for our men and women in the Navy and across the federal government.”

“We appreciate Senator Landrieu’s work on the Small Business Committee to create opportunities for small contractors,” said Dr. Savoie, CEO of Geocent.   “Having the opportunity to compete for and be awarded one of these six IDIQ contracts will allow us to grow our business and create jobs in Louisiana.  We look forward to using our talent and skill to do our part in helping the Navy defend America.”

This contract was competitively procured via a 100 percent small business set-aside solicitation. Sen. Landrieu worked to get a provision in the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 that requires agencies to set aside multiple award contracts for small businesses; set aside multiple award contracts for subcategories of small businesses; and reserve one or more contracts for small businesses and subcategories of small businesses for multiple full and open awards.

Geocent is an employee-owned small business that provides software engineering, data center and core infrastructure, technology consulting, and engineering and scientific support to commercial, aerospace, defense, maritime, energy, and federal, state, and local government customers.
