U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SBC), has been named a “Champion of Small Business” by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) in their annual “Congressional Scorecard for the 114th Congress: How Members of Congress Voted on Key Small Business Issues.”

“Small businesses play a pivotal role in growing our economy and creating millions of jobs across the country, which is why putting forth legislation to aid their growth and retention is so important,” said Vitter. “It’s a real honor to be named a champion of small businesses for my work in the U.S. Senate, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to fight for policies that foster innovation and growth in small businesses across the country.”

Today’s report ranks Members of Congress on their voting record on legislation affecting small businesses during the 114th Congress (2015—2016). Members scoring 80% or higher were named as a “Friend of Small Business,” while those scoring 90% or higher were named as a “Champion of Small Business.” Additionally, Chairman Vitter’s home state of Louisiana tied for 10th place in average scores of Senators and U.S. Representative’s pro-small business voting records with a score of 93%.

As SBC Chairman, Vitter is committed to advocating for America’s small businesses, and is working to make sure that the voices and concerns of small business owners across the country are heard in Washington. To date, Chairman Vitter has passed 32 bills out of the Committee, 22 more than his predecessors in recent years. Additionally, the Small Business Committee has held 25 hearings, 18 field hearings, and 2 roundtable discussions, hearing testimony from over 175 witnesses. Additionally, the Committee has passed 2 resolutions and sent 90 letters to various agencies, agency heads, members of Congress, and the White House advocating on behalf of small businesses and entrepreneurs.

In addition to Chairman Vitter, other SBC Committee Members recognized as “Champions of Small Business” include Senators Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.).
