(Washington, DC) – Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the lead Democrat on the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship, today issued the following statement on the nomination of David Christian Tryon, President Trump’s choice to lead the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Advocacy:

“The White House, Congress, federal agencies, courts and statehouses across the country rely on SBA’s Office of Advocacy to be a fully independent, non-partisan voice on behalf of America’s 29 million small businesses.

“I look forward to the confirmation process and a thorough review of Mr. Tryon’s qualifications to learn more about his views on the unique challenges facing small businesses.  I am particularly interested in his opinion on how regulations affect small businesses and what the office will do to ensure agencies fully consider the impact government rules have on small businesses – before they are enacted.

“The next head of the Office of Advocacy needs to be fully committed to making sure small business owners are heard throughout the regulatory and rulemaking process.”
