U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, released the following video remarks in recognition of National Small Business Week:

"Hi, I’m U.S. Senator Jim Risch, and I’m privileged to serve as chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

"This week, all Americans are celebrating National Small Business Week, a time for our nation to join together and honor the millions of entrepreneurs who drive our economy forward.

"Small businesses are no small matter. In Idaho, they make up an estimated 89 percent of all businesses.

"Nationwide, small businesses employ 58 million employees, nearly half of all American workers in the private sector.

"Having operated businesses for decades in Idaho, I understand the challenges that keep these small business owners awake at night – meeting payroll, balancing the budget, attracting and training workers, and complying with the profound and unnecessary amount of local, state and federal regulations.

"In our committee, we are dedicated to working across the aisle to address those concerns – not just this week, but all year long.

"In my position as Chairman, my number one priority has been to get the government out of the way and help provide some certainty and stability for small businesses.

"I am extremely confident in America’s entrepreneurs, who are innovative and tenacious, and can unleash a robust economic recovery if we give them the chance.

"This week, I encourage you to join me in supporting those men and women. Consider visiting your local small businesses and restaurants this week.

"And to every entrepreneur across our country, thank you.

"Happy National Small Business Week."
