WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship spoke on the Senate floor, and objected to the Democrat’s last-ditch efforts to avoid oversight of the Small Business Administration (SBA) illegally funding Planned Parenthood affiliates across America with free taxpayer dollars meant for small businesses.

This is a continuation of Dr. Paul’s leadership of Republican members’ ongoing efforts to hold the SBA accountable by not allowing a vote on SBA’s nominee for Deputy Administrator, and refusing to allow the Biden Administration to violate the law to pay back – with taxpayer dollars – a political ally.

Dr. Rand Paul’s Prepared Floor Remarks:

Mr. President,

Reserving the right to object, this motion is just another attempt by my Democratic colleagues to avoid holding SBA accountable for illegally funding Planned Parenthood affiliates through the Paycheck Protection Program.

The PPP program was intended to support small businesses across that country that were forced to lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Small Business Administration has unlawfully approved nearly $100 million in taxpayer funded PPP loans to Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country.

On June 30th alone, SBA approved four PPP loans to Planned Parenthoods despite a clear determination by the last Administration that these entities were ineligible for the program.

This nomination is for the position of Deputy Administrator of the SBA, which is responsible for the agency’s day-to-day operations and involved in all policy decisions, including the PPP program. The Biden Administration has continued to obstruct congressional oversight of the illegal Planned Parenthood loans and the nominee refused to provide a commitment to the Committee that he would take action to recover the funds.

The Republican members of the Small Business Committee have continued to make it clear that we will not allow a vote on this nominee to occur until the SBA takes action to recover the illegally acquired PPP funds by Planned Parenthood entities.

I object.
