(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today responded to the news that Funding Circle, U.S. has voluntarily returned the Small Business Lending Company (SBLC) license approved by the Small Business Administration (SBA) this past April.

“I am relieved to learn that Funding Circle has returned its license to SBA. As the Chair of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, I am fully committed to protecting the integrity of SBA’s 7(a) loan program and look forward to working with the administration to ensure that only qualified entities are granted the authority to participate going forward,” said Chair Shaheen.

Prior to SBA’s decision to finalize Funding Circle’s authority to issue 7(a) loans, Shaheen voiced concerns about the company’s fitness to participate in SBA’s lending programs. In a letter sent to Administrator Isabel Guzman in April, Shaheen specifically questioned the granting of a license to Funding Circle when its parent company was publicly shopping its U.S. subsidiary while its SBLC application was under review.
