IN BRIEF

WESST corp, the Women's Economic Self-Sufficiency Team, has announced it will provide low-interest loans to New Mexico startups and existing businesses through Dec. 31 at a fixed interest rate of 6.5 percent with flexible terms and conditions.

"Too many borrowers have been paying burdensomely high fees and interest rates for loans and now, faced with a sagging economy, a reduction in these costs is necessary for the sprouting of new, successful businesses. The ones who suffer the most are women and minorities," said Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business, at a recent business roundtable.

WESST corp is a nonprofit business assistance organization providing consulting services, training and loans. For information about the low-interest loan program, call Kim Blueher at 241-4761 or Debbie Baca at 241-4767.
