PITTSFIELD, Mass.— A U.S. Senate committee is scheduled to hold a hearing in western Massachusetts to study the impact of the rising costs of energy on small businesses.

Business leaders are expected to testify before the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship on how the cost of energy affects their ability to make a profit and keep employees on their payrolls.

Senator John Kerry chairs the committee and arranged for the field hearing Wednesday at Berkshire Community College, in Pittsfield.
