NORTHBOROUGH —

For Sandra Farrell, yesterday wasn't a typical day spent in the office of Northboro Oil Company.

Instead, Farrell was up before dawn to catch a 6 a.m. flight to Washington, D.C., where she and four other panelists spoke at a U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business hearing.

"I hope it helped the industry in general," said Farrell, one of the owners of Northboro Oil. "Any information we can get out to the people who are in place to make the policy changes is a good thing."

The hearing brought to light the struggles that rising fuel costs are having not just on consumers, but on smaller, family-owned businesses such as Northboro Oil, which has served the local area since 1953.
