Following is a statement from Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) on the Senate’s ‘Health Week’ following a vote to invoke cloture on a small business health bill. The vote was 55-43.

“It’s unfortunate that Health Week has come down to this, an entire week spent doing nothing that will address rising health care costs for small businesses and their employees. We could have used this week to get health insurance for every kid in America. Instead of real debate and a real plan, the Republicans wouldn’t allow important amendments to improve this bill or cover more people. We’re never going to fix the broken health care system like this. It’s irresponsible, and it’s unfair to the millions of Americans struggling with the skyrocketing cost of health care. They deserve better than a week of empty talk, political side shows and no action.”
