(Metairie, La.) - Today, U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) announced that the registration deadline for disaster loans through both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has been extended through November 14. The application period for both SBA and FEMA was set to expire today.

“Extending the FEMA and SBA disaster loan registration deadlines is good news for the thousands of Louisiana families and business owners who have been working the last several weeks just to get back into their homes and rebuild their businesses,” said Vitter. “For the Louisiana folks who lost everything in this devastating 1000-year flood event, they now have more time to take advantage of the vast resources and services offered by the SBA and FEMA so that they can recover and get back on their feet.”

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SBC), Vitter last week sent a letter to SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet urging her to extend the SBA disaster loan registration period. Click here to read more.

After the August flooding devastated much of South Louisiana, Vitter hosted Administrator Contreras-Sweet and Julian Castro, Secretary of the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to show them the devastation that affected much of the areas in Livingston, Ascension, and East Baton Rouge Parishes. During the visit, Vitter urged SBA and HUD to provide additional recovery resources, including opening more recovery centers for businesses, families, and individuals. Vitter also held a hearing to evaluate the federal government’s response to the natural disaster and to examine the federal resources provided to victims of the flooding, including the SBA’s loan program.
