Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, has named Smitty’s Pancake and Steak House in Idaho Falls, Idaho as the Small Business of the Month for April 2018. Smitty’s Pancake and Steak House will be recognized in the Congressional Record of the U.S. Senate.
“Known for their exceptional service and quality food in a welcoming environment, Smitty’s Pancake and Steak House has been a staple in Idaho Falls for decades,” said Chairman Risch. “In addition to serving delicious, fresh meals daily, Smitty’s embraces the values of loyalty, service, and hard work, and serves as an example for all entrepreneurs. So, with great pleasure, I extend my congratulations to all of the Smitty's Pancake and Steak House employees on their recognition as Small Business of the Month.”
Smitty’s began as just one location within a larger franchise network. However, in 1971 Leo and Cleo Werner left their jobs to buy the franchise license, thus changing the structure of the restaurant. When the Smitty’s chain rebranded, Mr. and Mrs. Werner decided to strike out on their own as independent owners. Today, the business is still family owned and operated, led by Mr. and Mrs. Werner’s granddaughters, Katrina Lott and Amanda Rosenberg. Smitty’s is known for serving a high volume of people at all times of the day, with some people lining up before six o’clock in the morning. The family believes in leadership by example, and always putting their customers’ needs first.
The Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship oversees proposed legislation on matters relating to entrepreneurship and provides oversight of the Small Business Administration. The committee also researches, investigates and reports all problems relating to America’s small businesses to the full Senate. As Chairman, Risch will honor America’s small businesses and entrepreneurs in the Senate each month.
