Today, U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, announced Lil’ Dizzy’s Café of New Orleans, La. as Small Business of the Week and will be submitting it into the official Congressional Record.

“Lil’ Dizzy’s Café is one of the great examples of Louisiana strength and rebirth. After the devastation of Katrina, the Baquets dedicated themselves to the New Orleans community and rebuilt their family-owned restaurant, flourishing in the years since,” said Vitter. “Congratulations to Lil’ Dizzy’s Café for being selected as Small Business of the Week.”

In 2005, New Orleans native Wayne Baquet opened the popular Lil’ Dizzy’s Café in New Orleans’ Treme neighborhood. In August of 2005, the Treme neighborhood and Lil Dizzy’s Café were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Baquet returned to New Orleans to rebuild his restaurant that had become a neighborhood icon and consequently helped start the long economic recovery process in the area. In years since, Baquet has expanded his family-owned business to include several other “Creole soul” restaurants.

Baquet identifies his food as “Creole soul,” and Lil’ Dizzy’s Café has become a destination for locals, tourists, celebrities, and politicians alike, in part due to the Baquet’s generations-old family recipes.

As Chairman of the Small Business Committee, Vitter continues the tradition of honoring American’s small business.
