Miami, FL — Yesterday, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR) conducted an official visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico where they met with members of the United States Coast Guard Sector San Juan. They received an update of the ongoing counternarcotic efforts on the island as well as the state of recovery efforts following Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Rubio and González-Colón also visited a small business, Papos Guacaros Place, in the municipality of Dorado. Papos Place fed local police officers and the barrio of Mameyal for two weeks following the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The legislators also met with Cuban and Venezuelan nationals who are currently living in Puerto Rico. During the meeting, Rubio reiterated his support for the interim government of Juan Guaidó and the restoration of democracy and human rights in Cuba.
Rubio is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
