(Concord, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today visited local businesses in Concord, NH, including Crust and Crumb Baking Company, Viking House, Granite State Candy Shoppe and Gibson’s Book Store. Chair Shaheen was joined by the New Hampshire District Office for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and local officials to tour small businesses, hear their concerns and encourage Granite Staters to shop small.
“We must do all we can to prioritize shopping small this holiday season and support the small businesses that keep our main streets vibrant,” said Chair Shaheen. “In New Hampshire, 99 percent of employers are small businesses, and they hire 50 percent of our state’s workforce. By supporting them, we are supporting the economic wellbeing of our entire state.”
Small businesses create jobs and strengthen communities across the country. In the Granite State, more than 140,000 small businesses employ 294,000 individuals. Shopping at small businesses during the holiday season ensures that they can keep their doors open, grow and continue hiring. This tour coincides with SBA’s Season of Small Business campaign, which will continue through December and encourages consumers to support the more than 34 million U.S. small businesses throughout the holiday season.
