WASHINGTON - On July 10, 2002, hundreds of entrepreneurs from across the nation will come to Washington with new and innovative ideas to help fight the war against terrorism and protect our borders. Sponsored by Senators John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) and Christopher “Kit” Bond (R-Mo.), the Small Business Homeland Security Expo 2002 will feature nearly fifty small companies with big ideas -- from facial recognition technology to a handheld device that can detect plastic explosives.

Federal procurement officials, members of Congress, small-business leaders and distinguished federal employees will attend the Expo, which is designed to educate members of Congress and highlight the work of small businesses in the area of homeland security.

In addition to Expo sponsors, Senators Kerry and Bond, speakers at the event will include Governor Tom Ridge, Director of the White House Office of Homeland Security, and Hector V. Barreto, Administrator of the Small Business Administration.

The Public Forum Institute, an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization in Washington, D.C., is coordinating the Expo with Senators Kerry and Bond.
